In North Carolina, practicing psychology, including behavior analysis, requires a license from the NC Psychology Board. Licensed psychologists can supervise unlicensed behavioral analysts for specific tasks outlined in Board rules, but analysts cannot work independently. Supervising psychologists must have face-to-face contact with clients receiving services from unlicensed individuals.
All applicants, provisionally licensed psychologists, and licensed psychological associates must maintain a Supervision Contract Form at all times, regardless of their employment status or activities. This form should be updated within 30 days of any changes or termination of existing contracts. Additionally, a Supervision Report Form must be submitted within two weeks of changes in supervision conditions or termination, or within 30 days upon Board notification. Supervisors can utilize the Supervision Record Form to maintain records as per Board regulations.
